“Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.” - Carl Jung
the idea of the "inner demon" or the "shadow self." This is the part of our psyche that represents our negative traits, fears, and repressed desires. It is the voice that tells us we are not good enough, that we will never succeed, and that we should give up on our dreams.
But before we dive into the depths of the shadow self, let's first understand the concept of the psyche. The psyche, in simple terms, is the sum total of our mental, emotional, and behavioral processes. It is the part of us that governs our thoughts, feelings, and actions. And within this psyche, there are different parts that play different roles.
Dealing with the Shadow we make
The shadow self, also known as the darker side of our personality, is made up of all the parts of ourselves that we reject, suppress or hide. It is the part of us that contains our fears, insecurities, and negative traits. It is the part of us that we don't want others to see, the part of us that we try to keep hidden.
But why is it important to understand and embrace our shadow self? Because it is through facing and embracing our shadow self that we can truly understand ourselves and others. It allows us to gain a deeper understanding of our own motivations and actions, and to understand why we do the things we do.
Moreover, it allows us to understand the motivations and actions of others. When we can see the shadow self in others, we can understand why they act the way they do and we can have compassion for them. Understanding our shadow self and the shadow self of others allows us to create deeper connections, and to have more empathy and understanding in our relationships.
One way to begin exploring your shadow self is through journaling. Take some time to reflect on your negative traits, fears, and insecurities, and write them down. Then, try to understand where these traits come from, and how they have affected your life.
Another way is to meditate and focus on the things that make you feel uncomfortable or uneasy, and try to understand where those feelings come from.
But remember, embracing your shadow self is not about dwelling on the negative, but about understanding and accepting all aspects of yourself. It’s about developing a deeper understanding and compassion for yourself and for others.
